We LOVED Jackie and Michelle’s non-traditional wedding at South Congress Hotel in Austin, Texas. They were such an incredible couple to work with. Super-fun-down-to-earth-up-for-anything kind of couple. Plus we got to work with our friend, Sydney, who is the fabulous owner of Olive and Belle Events.
Mid-Century Modern Boutique Hotel in Austin
South Congress Hotel is a beautiful mid-century modern inspired boutique hotel located on Austin’s iconic South Congress Avenue. It is one of the most photogenic hotels we’ve ever shot at with it’s modern minimalistic architecture, furniture, and fixtures (and did you see that pool??).
Getting ready details
Instead of getting ready separately, Jackie and Michelle spent the morning getting ready together. We loved photographing them helping each other get dressed. Speaking of attire, Jackie and Michelle’s outfits were custom made by family fashion designers, Pedro Ramirez and Edwin Moreno Elles, in Colombia. How cool is that?! Jackie wore a tea length white dress, white lace fingerless gloves, and burgundy shoes. Her hair was styled in a loose braid with a jewel hairpiece. Michelle wore a white suit with black accents and a delicate gold belt and black ankle boots.
Portraits at South Congress Hotel
Because they set aside an entire hour for portraits before the ceremony, we were able to capture a lot of awesome images of them in different spots around the property. We know it’s not possible for everyone to do this, but if you have the time in your schedule, we highly recommend it!
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at South Congress Hotel
Instead of having bridesmaids and groomsmen, Jackie and Michelle had a joint wedding party that they affectionately called “The Best Crew.” The wedding colors were burgundy, white, blush, and green (with some touches of gold). The ceremony took place outside after sunset and was officiated by the owner of Eastside Yoga, Steven Ross. It was a beautiful ceremony that brought tears to my eyes.
Personalized Details at the Reception
The reception was full of delicious food, emotional toasts, and energetic dancing. They decorated the tables with gold vases, geometric terrariums, and burgundy and white flowers with greenery. Jackie and Michelle had a creative idea for their table numbers. They took a photo of themselves and/or their dogs with each number, and then used those photos on the tables. It was a very cute idea, and a fun way to include their pets on the wedding day. To incorporate some of their roots into the celebration, Jackie and Michelle served shots of Colombian “fire water” (aguadriente) and Mexican cookies. They also served Lick ice cream!! The flavors were dark chocolate sea salt, hill country honey and vanilla bean, s’more meringue, and chia chai. Yum!!! Jackie and Michelle’s guests also had a fun time taking photos with the magic GIF photobooth. For their exit, they walked through a glow stick tunnel!
